Quotes

Sam Grewe
“It’s so exciting [that we’re only a year away from the 2020 Paralympic Games]. There’s a lot that has to happen between now and then but to be where I am now and to see my last jumps, I know there is so much height left. There’s a lot of room to grow; I’d like to clear two meters in Tokyo and I think I’m setting myself up to do just that.”

Josh Cinnamo
“It’s all about timing and I hope I’m not peaking now. This mark is indicative of what I can do but I hope it’s not the end of the road. World champion has been the title I’ve wanted this year. That doesn’t take away from this; this is great. It’s just a step in the process. Even though it’s a world record today, it’s going to take a lot more to win next year.”

Deja Young
“I was really happy with my time. This was my first time running this fast internationally, so I’m really pleased with that. This is a great step ahead towards getting ready for world championships. It makes me feel good because my training is finally falling into place. I’m really excited to see what’s coming next.”

Ezra Frech
“I’ve looked up to Sam [Grewe] for four to five years now. He’s been such an amazing mentor and I’m so grateful to be here and go first and second with him. He’s an incredible person and I’m so thankful to shadow him at his competition and help each other out there.”

Sydney Barta
“Going into it, I was just hoping to medal so I did not expect this to happen. [The race] was really close, too. Those are the races I live for. It’s great to have such good competitors in my class.”

What To Watch

After heating up the high jump with a silver medal, Ezra Frech (Los Angeles, California) returns to competition aiming to make the podium again the men’s long jump T63/64 final as events continue Monday. Fellow Los Angeles native Breanna Clark will begin her Parapan American campaign with the event she won her Paralympic gold in, the women’s 400m T20 final. Gianfranco Iannotta (Garfield, N.J.) and Isaiah Rigo (Cheney, Wash.) will face off again in the men’s 100m T52 final, Iannotta’s strongest event where he earned his Paralympic and world championship titles. Rigo edged Iannotta on Sunday in the men’s 400m T52. In the men’s long jump T47, Tobi Fawehinmi (Arlington, Texas) will make his Parapan Am debut alongside U.S. teammate Tanner Wright (Fort Worth, Texas).
