COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Today, U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee, named 11 athletes (seven men, four women) to the 2018-19 U.S. Paralympics Alpine Skiing National Team. Nine of the 11 athletes were members of the 2018 U.S. Paralympic Team that won six medals in PyeongChang.

“Coming off the PyeongChang Games, we’re thrilled about the talent we see with this core group of athletes returning to the national team,” Kevin Jardine, director of U.S. Paralympics Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding said. “This year will present a great opportunity to develop our program and work with our younger athletes who have the potential to make a major impact in 2022.”

Highlighting the U.S. roster are Paralympic medalists Andrew Kurka (Palmer, Alaska) and Laurie Stephens (Wenham, Massachusetts). Kurka brought home Team USA’s first alpine medal in PyeongChang with gold in the men’s downhill sitting followed by silver the following day in super-G. Stephens, the most decorated member of the U.S. alpine team, captured bronze in the women’s downhill sitting to bring her career total up to seven medals.

Two-time Paralympian Kevin Burton (Erie, Colorado) has represented his country both on the snow and in the military. Burton served as a U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class and competed in the 2014 Winter Games in Nordic skiing before switching to alpine skiing for the 2018 Games.

The 2018-19 World Para Alpine Skiing season begins in December 2018 and ends in March 2019.
