U.S. Paralympics Cycling Unveils 2018 Road World Championships Team

Shawn Morelli returns as the reigning road world champion in the C4 time trial and road race.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -  U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, today announced its roster of 18 athletes who will represent Team USA at the 2018 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Maniago, Italy, from Aug. 2-5. The team includes 12 Paralympians and seven reigning road world championship medalists.

Highlighting the team is Shawn Morelli (Saegertown, Pennsylvania), who is the reigning road world champion in the C4 time trial and road race.

Five 2017 road world championship silver medalists return to the competition, including Will Groulx (Portland, Oregon), who won three silvers in the H2 time trial, road race and handcycle relay last year. Additional returning silver medalists are Samantha Bosco (Upland, California/C5 time trial), Ryan Boyle (Monroe, Connecticut/T2 time trial), Freddie de los Santos (Hopewell Junction, New York/handcycle relay) and Jill Walsh (Syracuse, New York/T2 time trial).

Billy Lister (Cold Spring Harbor, New York), who won bronze at last year’s road world championships in the C1 time trial, returns to look for another podium finish.

Six athletes who secured top-10 finishes at the 2017 edition return to the team: Tom Davis (Fremont, Indiana), Aaron Keith (Woodinville, Washington), Todd Key (Scottsdale, Arizona), Jennifer Schuble (Homewood, Alabama), Monica Sereda (St. Petersburg, Florida) and Jamie Whitmore (Somerset, California).

Alicia Dana (Putney, Vermont), David Randall (Ontario, Ohio) and Oz Sanchez (San Diego, California) were also named to the team, while Travis Gaertner (Burien, Washington) and Cody Jung (San Diego, California) will make their world championships debuts.

At the most recent world cup in Emmen, Netherlands, Team USA secured 21 medals, including 11 golds. Six athletes currently hold the top spot of their classification in the world cup rankings, including Dana, Davis, Groulx, Morelli, Walsh and Whitmore, while Team USA also leads the overall world cup rankings in the handcycle relay.
