Team USA Claims Three Medals on Opening Night of the World Para Athletics Championships

Alexa Halko took home bronze in the T34 100-meter on the opening night of the World Para Athletics Championships.

LONDON - On the opening night of the World Para Athletics Championships, Team USA’s women secured one silver and two bronze medals at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Alexa Halko (Williamsburg, Virginia) won the first medal of the evening for Team USA, taking bronze in the T34 100-meter. The 2016 Paralympic bronze medalist finished the race in a time of 18.43.

Americans claimed a pair of medals in the T51 women's club throw. Cassie Mitchell (Warner, Oklahoma) took home silver (23.37-meters), while Rachael Morrison (Farmington Hills, Michigan) finished in third (22.92).

Rounding out the day for Team USA was Erik Hightower (Glendale, Arizona) who placed fifth in the T54 100 in a time of 14.62.

Competition continues tomorrow at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and concludes Sunday, July 23.
