Para-cycling National Champions Crowned in Grand Junction

Will Groulx, pictured at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, swept all three H2 national titles at the Para-cycling national championships in Grand Junction, Colorado.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Multiple national champions were crowned in the time trial, road race and criterium at the USA Cycling Collegiate and Para-Cycling Road National Championships which concluded on Sunday.

The competition brought out more than 30 first-time participants to Para-cycling nationals and saw increased depth across the handcycle and trike classes.

Ten athletes swept the competition in their respective classifications. In the men’s handcycle field, James Dubose (H1), Will Groulx (Portland, Oregon – H2) and David Randall (Mansfield, Ohio - H3) swept the titles. Aaron Scheidies (Seattle, Washington) came out on top with a title sweep of the tandem classification, and Todd Key (Scottsdale, Arizona) grabbed three national titles in the C1 class. For the trikes, Ryan Sykes (San Ramon, California - T1), Ryan Boyle (Monroe, Connecticut - T2) and Jill Walsh (Syracuse, New York - T2) outlasted their competitors to sweep the road race and time trial titles. In the other women’s classifications, Alicia Dana (Putney, Vermont) swept all three titles in the H3 races, while Allison Jones (Colorado Springs, Colorado) did the same in the C2 class.

Other athletes winning multiple titles included: Tom Davis (Fremont, Indiana - H4); Jamie Whitmore (Mount Aukum, California – C3); Shawn Morelli (Meadville, Pennsylvania - C4); Sara Domson (Houston, Texas - H4); Noah Middlestaedt (Saint Cloud, Minnesota - C4) and Chris Murphy (Rancho Cucamonga, California - C5)
