In 2016, U.S. Paralympic athletes reached new heights, traveled to new places and had a remarkable showing at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. From swimming to track and field, Team USA athletes set the standard on and off the field of play bringing home an impressive medal haul of 115 - including 40 golds. Not only did they emerge victorious, they made history. The U.S. Women's Sitting Volleyball team earned the country’s first Paralympic gold medal against China since the sport was added to the Paralympic program in 2004. Tatyana McFadden, Chelsea McClammer and Amanda McGrory completed two 'McSweeps' on the track, taking gold, silver and bronze in the T54 1,500-meter and 5,000. Closing out the competition, Jessica Long secured gold in her final race, becoming the the second most decorated Paralympian in U.S. History. These are just three milestones of many.
