The National Wheelchair Basketball Association hosted a training camp and friendly international competition at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado from May 14-20. Upon completion of the camp, twelve of the top female athletes have been nominated to the USA Women's National Team that will represent the U.S. at the Parapan American Games in Toronto this August.

During the camp the athletes continued to build on their strength, endurance, mental toughness, basketball skills, teamwork, coachability, versatility, attitude and maturity. They played a scrimmage against the Denver Nuggets Men's team on Saturday morning and won this game. They also played three international friendly matches against Japan (Saturday, Sunday and Monday) and won all three games. All games were open to the public.

"We are excited about the twelve that we will take to Toronto. We feel they provide us with a lot of versatility on court that will allow us to play different styles of basketball. We feel this mix of vets and young players will be the best athletes to help us achieve our goal in Toronto, which is to qualify for the Rio Paralympic Games." said Head coach of the women's team, Stephanie Wheeler.

These 12 athletes were selected from the group of 18 that was announced in January of this year. Since the selection camp in January, the athletes have continued to have opportunities to train and compete and demonstrate their capability to earn a spot on the final roster traveling to Toronto.

The NWBA would like to acknowledge the players, coaches and volunteers for all their contributions and efforts, as well as those who took the time to volunteer during our games over the past week and anyone who came out to support the Women's team during our games against Japan and the Denver Nuggets Men's team.
