On day five of the Parapan American Games, Lex Gillette earned gold in the men’s long jump T11/12 en route to a three-medal day for Team USA at the track. U.S. swimmers collected three bronzes, while Ron Hawthorne won the first U.S. judo medal of the Games, a bronze in the men’s -60kg class. The table tennis duo of Jennifer Johnson and Cynthia Ranii earned bronze in women’s team class 4-5 competition, while Jon Rydberg and Kaitlyn Verfuerth both advanced to singles finals in wheelchair tennis. U.S. Wheelchair Rugby defeated archrival Canada in a thrilling double overtime match to close out preliminary play. Men’s and women’s goalball, men’s sitting volleyball and men’s wheelchair basketball all advanced to semifinals.
