New Gloucester, Maine - USBA announced a list of six club coaches who will join USBA staff on key IBU level trips this winter. In prior years, US Biathlon has selected a few club coaches to join on only one or two international trips, but this year in an effort to continue to strengthen US coaching and give more opportunities to club coaches, USBA will be supporting additional coaches at eight different events.

We are excited to offer this great opportunity to our domestic coaches, said Director of Athlete Development, Tim Burke. “There is a lot of value for coaches in participating in these international competition trips; from learning from other experienced coaches to seeing how other teams operate, we hope these trips will help our coaches continue to grow.  As our programs continue to expand and we participate in more international competitions, we hope to offer more of these opportunities.

US Biathlon is pleased to announce the following coaches will be joining USBA throughout the season. We’re especially excited to be able to support more female coaches through our partnership with the International Biathlon Union that has provided us a grant to support female coaches specifically.

Gerrit Garberich (Team Soldier Hollow) - IBU Cup 2

Matt Doherty (Paul Smith’s College) - World University Games

Kate Mulcahy (Bridger Ski Foundation) - Jr. IBU Cup 3 & Junior Open European Championships

Sydney Michalak (Crosscut Mountain Sports Center) - IBU Cup 4 & 5

Maddie Phaneuf (NYSEF) - Open European Championships and IBU Cup 6

Ann Sorenson (Crosscut Mountain Sports Center) - IBU Cup 7 & 8

A big thank you to all the coaches who applied and congratulations to those who will be joining us in support of Team USA this season!
