(Nov. 22, 2020) -- The U.S. Biathlon International Competition Committee has named a
10-athlete roster to compete in the opening events of the 2020-21 IBU World Cup
circuit, which starts Nov. 28.
The roster includes a balanced mix of veteran talent and Olympic hopefuls. Just over
half of the athletes named Sunday were members of the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team,
including Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.)
and Joanne Reid (Grand Junction, Colo.) on the women’s side, and Sean
Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) and Leif Nordgren (Hinesburg, Vt.) on the men’s
squad. 2020 World Championship team member Paul Schommer (Appleton, WI) was
also pre-selected to the men’s roster.
Rounding out the women’s team are Deedra Irwin (Pulaski, WI) and 2018 Olympian
Maddie Phaneuf (Old Forge, NY). Finalizing the men’s roster were Jake Brown (St.
Paul, MN) and Max Durtschi (Ketchum, ID).
Kontiolahti, Finland, will play host to the first two IBU World Cups, including an
abbreviated two-day opener, Nov. 28-29. The World Cup will remain in Kontiolahti for
the second event, Dec. 3-6. The circuit then travels to Hochfilzen, Austria, for the third
and fourth World Cup events, Dec. 11-13 and Dec. 17-20.
