Biathlon is a unique Olympic event that attracts athletes and fans alike for its integration of two opposing athletic elements. Fans can now gain greater insights into the sport and their favorite athletes with Heartbeat: The US Biathlon Podcast. The podcast launched this month across most popular platforms featuring two-time World Championship medalist Susan Dunklee as the first guest.
Heartbeat takes listeners inside the world of a sport that combines the heart-pumping aerobics of cross country skiing with the precision element of marksmanship. The US Biathlon podcast brings you close to the athletes, breaking down one of the most popular Olympic Winter Games sports.
The podcast will feature star athletes, legends from the past as well as coaches and other sport leaders, probing the depths of the sport from grassroots clubs up to the BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon tour. It will be hosted by noted commentator Tom Kelly, who has produced a series of Olympic and winter sports podcasts..
“Our sport has such fascinating personalities with great stories to tell,” said US Biathlon President and CEO Max Cobb. “The popularity of podcasts gives us the perfect platform for fans to learn more about our athletes and the sport of biathlon.”
In the opening episode, Susan Dunklee: Targeting Silver, the veteran athlete takes listeners behind the scenes at Antholz, Italy where she won an unprecedented second silver medal at World Championships in February. She traces her roots in the sport, beginning with her Olympic skier father and the coach who introduced her to biathlon while skiing at Dartmouth. She also talks about life in coronavirus quarantine, as well as some tips on gardening.
“Heartbeat will allow us to really explore the sport and the lifestyle of the athletes,” said Kelly. “Susan was an amazing first guest, sharing the story of her great athletic success and the lifestyle she leads at her home in Vermont.”
Heartbeat is available on most podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, TuneIn, Castbox, Player FM and more. There will be two episodes each month during the season, with one episode a month during the summer. Each episode will feature 35-45 minutes of original content.
