Egan 26th in Pokljuka Mass Start

POKLJUKA, Slovenia (Jan. 26, 2020) – Racing in her first mass start of the 2019-20 season, Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) finished 26th in Sunday's 12.5-kilometer mass start as the BMW IBU World Cup wrapped up in Pokljuka. Egan shot clean in the opening prone stage and had one penalty in each of the remaining three shooting stages to finish 3 minutes, 31.8 seconds back of the lead.

Sweden's Hanna Oeberg sealed victory in the women's mass start with a fast and clean final standing stage to win with a time of 34:14.4. Oeberg had just one penalty to top clean-shooting Lisa Vittozzi of Italy by 6.5 seconds. Anais Bescond of France finished third for her third podium of the weekend. Bescond also shot clean to finish 27.6 seconds behind Oeberg.

In the men's mass start held earlier in the day, Quentin Fillon Maillet of France cleaned the last standing stage and skied away from his rivals in the last loop to win in 36:21.5. Fillon Maillet had just one penalty en route to his third career win. Benedikt Doll of Germany, also with one penalty, finished second, 10 seconds back. Norway's Johannes Thingnes Boe was third, 10.3 seconds behind Fillon Maillet with two penalties.

The teams will now rest up for the IBU World Championships beginning Feb. 13 and running through Feb. 23 in Antholz-Anterselva, Italy.
