POKLJUKA, Slovenia (Jan. 23, 2020) – The BMW IBU World Cup in Pokljuka got underway on Thursday with Leif Nordgren (Hinesburg, Vt.) leading the U.S. efforts in the men's 20-kilometer individual race. Nordgren finished 27th in the 108-man field with two penalties, crossing the line 3 minutes, 38.3 seconds behind victor Johannes Thingnes Boe of Norway. Nordgren cleaned his final two shooting stages.

"I'm pretty satisfied with the race from today," said Nordgren. "I managed some decent, fast shooting, and combined with a good ski race I was able to get a top 30. We had great skis today. As always, our technicians have been hard at work getting us the best material possible."

After sitting out the previous two IBU World Cups in Oberhof and Ruhpolding, Germany, due to the birth of his son, Boe won the Pokljuka men's individual with clean shooting and a time of 47:54.3. It was his sixth win of the season. France's Martin Fourcade also shot clean to finish second, 11.4 seconds back. Fourcade's teammate, Fabien Claude, was perfect on the range to finish in a career-best third place, 25.6 seconds behind Boe.

Racing in his first career World Cup 20km, Jake Brown (Saint Paul, Minn.) had his best result of the season in 52nd place with three penalties, 5:54.9 back. Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) finished 74th and Paul Schommer (Appleton, Wis.) was 85th.

The BMW IBU World Cup continues from Pokljuka on Friday with the women's 15km individual featuring Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.), Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), Joanne Reid (Grand Junction, Colo.) and Emily Dreissigacker (Morrisville, Vt.). The race will be shown live at 6:15 a.m. EST on The Olympic Channel.
