NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine (Jan. 7, 2020) -- The U.S. Biathlon International Competition Committee has finalized the rosters for BMW IBU World Cups 4-6 as well as IBU Cups 4-7. The announcement comes following two days of team trials in Arber, Germany which represented the final part of a multi-phase trials. The process began with summer roller ski races, continued with on-snow racing in Craftsbury, Vermont, and concluded with two sprint races in Arber, Jan. 6-7.
"We are excited to field this group of athletes for the next round of World Cups and IBU Cups in January and February," said U.S. Biathlon Director of High Performance Lowell Bailey. "This was our first time holding a multi-stage selection with domestic racing in December followed by the week's European trials races. Our aim was to give more chances and fairer selection procedures to the athletes and I think this was accomplished by holding this last round of trials in close proximity to both the Oberhof World Cup and Osrblie IBU Cup sites. Good luck to all of the athletes and congratulations on the successful conclusion of the Arber trials."
Added to the U.S. women's team competing at the BMW IBU World Cups in Oberhof, Germany (Jan. 9-12), Ruhpolding, Germany (Jan. 15-19), and Pokljuka, Slovakia (Jan. 23-26) were Hallie Grossman (South Burlington, Vt.) and Emily Dreissigacker (Morrisville, Vt.). They will join Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.) who were named to the squad on Dec. 23 based on their World Cup rankings.
Joining the men's squad at those same World Cup competitions will be Paul Schommer (Appleton, Wis.) and Jake Brown (Saint Paul, Minn.), who will team up with the previously named duo of Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) and Leif Nordgren (Hinesburg, Vt.).
The U.S. women's roster for the next four IBU Cup events will consist of Deedra Irwin (Pulaski, Wis.), Joanne Reid (Grand Junction, Colo.), Kelsey Dickinson (Winthrop, Wash.) and Maddie Phaneuf (Old Forge, N.Y.). The men's IBU Cup team will be Max Durtschi (Ketchum, Idaho), Alex Howe (Gilford, N.H.), Travis Cooper (Kenai, Alaska) and Lars Hammernes Leopold (Truckee, Calif.). Raleigh Goessling (Duluth, Minn.) will serve as the team's first alternate.
The IBU Cup travels to Brezno-Osrblie, Slovakia (Jan. 10-12 & Jan. 15-18), Arber, Germany (Feb. 8-9) and Martell-Val Martello, Italy (Feb. 13-16) for its next four stops.
