ANTHOLZ-ANTERSELVA, Italy (Feb. 15, 2020) – Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) finished 44th in Saturday's men's 10-kilometer sprint to give the U.S. Biathlon team three starters in Sunday's pursuit races at the IBU World Championships in Antholz. Doherty joins Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.) and Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) who qualified during Friday's women's 7.5km sprint. Dunklee captured the silver medal and Egan was 26th.

On Saturday, Doherty had one penalty in prone and another in standing on a perfect weather day in Antholz. He crossed the line 2 minutes, 3.5 seconds behind winner Alexander Loginov of Russia. Other Americans competing but falling outside the top-60 cutoff for Sunday's pursuit were Jake Brown (Saint Paul, Minn.) in 68th, Paul Schommer (Appleton, Wis.) in 72nd, and Leif Nordgren (Hinesburg, Vt.) in 88th.

Loginov shot clean to win his first-ever IBU World Championship medal in 22:48.1. France's Quentin Fillon Maillet, with one penalty, won the silver medal, 6.5 seconds back. His teammate Martin Fourcade also shot clean to claim the bronze medal, 19.5 seconds behind Loginov.

For Sunday's pursuit races, Doherty will start 2:04 behind Loginov in the 12.5km men's pursuit. Meanwhile, Dunklee will be second off the start line in the women's 10km pursuit, just seven seconds after leader Marte Olsbu Roeiseland. Egan will begin her race 1:13 after Roeiseland.
