National Pursuit Titles to Doherty and Dunklee

Sean Doherty took the victory in the men's pursuit at the U.S. Biathlon National Championships

JERICHO, Vermont (March 30, 2019) -- Olympians Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) and Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.) won gold medals in Saturday's pursuit races at the U.S. Biathlon National Championships at the Ethan Allen Biathlon Club. For Dunklee, it marked her second win in as many days.

Doherty took the men's 12.5-kilometer pursuit in a time of 34 minutes, 24.9 seconds. He had six penalties on the shooting range. Jake Brown (Saint Paul, Minn.) and Max Durtschi (Ketchum, Idaho) joined Doherty on the podium, finishing second and third, respectively. Brown, with four penalties, was 17 seconds back, while Durtschi crossed the line 1:36.6 behind Doherty, with seven penalties.

Dunklee skied to her second victory in decisive fashion. Despite seven penalties on the range, she posted a winning margin of 4:06.7 over runner-up Hallie Grossman (South Burlington, Vt.) who finished with six penalties. Kelsey Dickinson (Winthrop, Wash.) claimed her second bronze medal of the competition with seven penalties, 4:41 behind Dunklee.

Competition concludes on Sunday with the mass start races.
