U.S. Juniors Race in Relays at World Championships

OSRBLIE, Slovakia (January 30, 2019) – The relay competitions wrapped up Wednesday at the 2019 IBU Youth/Junior World Championships in Osrblie, Slovakia.The U.S. junior men's team placed 19th and the junior women's squad finished 21st in their respective races.

The junior men's relay team of Vasek Cervenka (Grand Rapids, Minn.), Lars Hammernes Leopold (Truckee, Calif.), Garrett Beckrich (Grand Rapids, Minn.) and Cody Johnson (Fort Kent, Maine) had three penalties and used 16 spares to finish 9 minutes, 47.8 seconds behind the winning foursome from Russia. Beckrich had a clean round in prone. Germany finished second with Italy taking the third spot on the podium.

In the junior women's relay, Chloe Levins (Rutland, Vt.), Maja Lapkass (Anchorage, Alaska) and Ariana Woods (McCall, Idaho) placed 21st, 7:04.3 off the winning pace with three penalties and seven spare rounds. Levins was 10-for-10 on the range during her opening leg. France claimed the gold medal with just one spare round, followed to the line by the teams from Germany and Sweden.

The competitors will have an off day on Thursday before resuming racing on Friday with the youth sprint competitions.
