RUHPOLDING, Germany (Jan. 18, 2019) – Max Durtschi (Ketchum, Idaho) nipped Estonia's Kauri Koiv at the finish line by 0.1 seconds to secure 17th place for the U.S. men's team in Friday's 4x7.5-kilometer relay at the BMW IBU World Cup in Ruhpolding.

The American foursome of Durtschi, Leif Nordgren (Marine, Minn.), Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) and Jake Brown (Saint Paul, Minn.) stopped the clock 4 minutes, 1.2 seconds off the winning time. On the shooting range, the U.S. team had one penalty and used 13 spare rounds. Nordgren used only one spare on the opening leg to put the squad in 10th position at the first exchange. He had the seventh-fastest range time on the opening leg among the 27 teams.

Johannes Thingnes Boe anchored his Norwegian team of Lars Helge Birkeland, Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen and Tarjei Boe to victory in the men's relay. The Norwegian team used eight spare rounds, finishing in 1:09:54.3. Germany took second place with six spares, 13.5 seconds back, while France, with nine spares, finished third, 26.2 seconds behind Norway.
