HOCHFILZEN, Austria (Dec. 14, 2018) – Team USA will have four entrants in Saturday's pursuit races after Leif Nordgren (Marine, Minn.) and Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) qualified in Friday's men's 10-kilometer sprint at the BMW IBU World Cup in Hochfilzen. Nordgren had just one penalty on the range to finish 1 minute, 28.1 seconds back of winner Johannes Thingnes Boe of Norway in 31st place. Doherty finished 49th, with two penalties, 1:57.9 back. The will join U.S. teammates Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.) and Joanne Reid (Palo Alto, Calif.) in Saturday's pursuit races.

The men had a brilliant day for their sprint with the cold temperatures, sunshine and light winds making for hard, fast tracks. Even so, less than a dozen of the competitors were able to shoot a clean 10-for-10 on the range.

"I felt really solid on the range today," Nordgren said. "The one miss I had in standing was a really stupid mistake. Besides that, I felt the best on the range I have so far this season. We had great skis again today which helps too. I'm looking forward to the pursuit tomorrow. Hopefully I can take advantage of the consistent shooting I've had and move up some spots."

Boe won a wire-to-wire sprint with one penalty in 24:49.2. Second place went to Martin Fourcade of France who shot clean but missed the top spot by 8.6 seconds. Benedikt Doll of Germany also shot clean to finish in third place, 10.2 seconds back.

Also competing for Team USA in the men's sprint, but falling out of the top-60 qualifying cutoff were Travis Cooper (Kenai, Alaska) in 100th and Paul Schommer (Appleton, Wis.) in 104th.

Saturday's pursuit races begin at 5:30 a.m. ET with the women's 10km race. Then the men take to the track at 8:45 a.m. ET for their 12.5km competition.
