Sharp-Shooting Bailey Earns Career-Best 6th in World Championship Pursuit

HOCHFILZEN, Austria (February 12, 2017) – Three-time Olympian Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, N.Y.) turned in the best-ever finish for an American in a 10-kilometer sprint at a world championships with a fourth-place showing Saturday at the IBU World Championships in Hochfilzen. With clean shooting and great skiing, Bailey was just over six seconds from the bronze medal. His performance was the third-best overall by an American at an IBU World Championships, behind only the silver-medal wins in the men's 20km individual by Josh Thompson in 1987 and Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, N.Y.) in 2013.

The men's 12.5km pursuit begins at 9:00 a.m. EST on Sunday. It will be preceded by the women's 10km pursuit at 4:30 a.m. EST featuring the American trio of Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.) and Joanne Reid (Boulder, Colo.). The races will be streamed live on Eurovision.
