Opening ceremonies kick off IBU World Championships

KONTIOLAHTI, Finland (March 4, 2015) - The IBU World Championships presented by BMW got underway Wednesday in Kontiolahti, Finland, with the opening ceremonies. Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), who is participating in her first world championships, led the American contingent into the ceremonies as the team's flag bearer.

Competition at the world championships kicks off Thursday with the mixed 2x6 + 2x7.5-kilometer relay. The U.S. team will feature a quartet of 2014 Olympians: Hannah Dreissigacker (Morrisville, Vt.), Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.), Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, N.Y.) and Leif Nordgren (Marine, Minn.).

The IBU World Championships presented by BMW will be streamed live on Eurovision with English commentary by Chad Salmela, and will also be broadcast on the Universal Sports Network. Schedules are below with all times listed EST.
