ANTHOLZ-ANTERSELVA, Italy (January 22, 2015) - Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, N.Y.) posted a 32nd place (24:50.0/+1) in Thursday's 10-kilometer sprint at World Cup 6 in Antholz-Anterselva, Italy. Shooting clean in prone, Bailey picked up one penalty in standing to finish 1:31.2 back from today's winner, Simon Schempp of Germany, who crossed the line in 23:18.8 with clean shooting. Evgeniy Garanichev (RUS) was second (23:32.8/+0) and Jakov Fak (SLO) finished third (23:38.9/+1).

"I didn't feel great skiing -- just kind of flat and not entirely on my game," said Bailey. "I was happy with the shooting performance. I wanted to be aggressive in the range and take quality shots. I let one go on the first shot in standing, but other than that, I felt good about the shooting performance. Now I just need to get my ski speed back up for the pursuit."

Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, N.Y.) finished 48th (25:20.9/+3), Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) was 63rd (25:37.8/+3), and Leif Nordgren (Marine, Minn.) finished 80th (26:08.3/+4). Full race results are available here.

The World Cup in Antholz continues Friday with the women's 7.5k sprint. Racing for the U.S. will be Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.), Annelies Cook (Saranac Lake, N.Y.), Hannah Dreissigacker (Morrisville, Vt.) and Maddie Phaneuf (Old Forge, N.Y.). Live streaming coverage can be seen here starting at 8:30 a.m. EST.
