RUHPOLDING, Germany (January 16, 2015) - With just one miss and a time of 22:51.4, Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.) finished 26th in today's 7.5-kilometer sprint at World Cup 5 in Ruhpolding, Germany. Her performance maintains her 24th place in the World Cup rankings and qualifies her for Sunday's 12.5k mass start event.
Dunklee finished 1 minute 44 seconds back from Fanny Welle-Strand Horn's (NOR) winning time of 21:07.4/+0. Darya Domracheva of Belarus came in second (21:10.8/+0), and Tiril Eckhoff (NOR) was third in a time of 21:16.7/+1.
"I had a great shooting day and I found the mental zone where I felt happy and psyched to be racing," said Dunklee. "While the end result today doesn't look particularly special, I think it was one of my best performances of the season so far. And having those pieces come together well is a huge confidence booster going forward."
Annelies Cook (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) finished 52nd (23:37.5/+1) and Hannah Dreissigacker (Morrisville, Vt.) was 77th (24:48.6/+3). Full race results are available here.
Action continues Saturday at the Ruhpolding World Cup with the men's 10k sprint. Leif Nordgren (Marine, Minn.), Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, N.Y.), Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, N.Y.) and Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) will be racing for the U.S. Live streaming coverage can be seen here starting at 8:30 a.m. EST.
