MINSK-RAUBICHI, Belarus (February 19, 2015) - Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) skied to a top-15 finish for Team USA Thursday in the junior men's 15-kilometer individual event on the second day of competition at the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships in Belarus. Doherty posted a time of 42:53.5 (1+1+0+1) to take 14th, 3:41 minutes back of France's Aristide Begue, who won with clean shooting and a time of 39:12. Aleksandr Dediukhin (RUS) took second with a time of 39:15.8, and no penalties, and Vemund Gurigard (NOR) also had clean shooting in placing third with a time of 40:39.1.

Other finishers in the junior men's race were Jakob Ellingson (Minnetonka, Minn.) in 55th, and Brian Halligan (Gansevoort, N.Y.) in 70th. Full youth men's individual results are available here.

Maddie Phaneuf (Old Forge, N.Y.) finished 39th in the junior women's 12.5-kilometer individual, stopping the clock with a time of 44:36.4 (0+3+0+2). Yuliya Zhuravok (UKR) won the women's individual, posting a time of 37:54.1, and no penalties. Also shooting clean and taking second place was Kinga Mitoraj (POL) in a time of 37:54.3, while Kazakhstan's Galina Vishnevskaya was third in 38:24.2, and one penalty.

"Overall, I was happy with my race this morning," said Phaneuf. "The prone shooting was perfect and the skiing felt really strong. My standing shooting could have been better, but there are a few more races to improve that percentage. I'm getting excited for Saturday's sprint."

Also competing in Thursday's women's individual event was Mikaela Paluszek (Saxtons River, Vt.) who placed 59th. Full results from the junior women's individual event are available here.

Competition continues Friday with the youth women's 6-kilometer sprint, followed by the youth men's 7.5-kilometer sprint. Competing in the women's race for Team USA will be Siena Ellingson (Minnetonka, Minn.), Amanda Kautzer (Plymouth, Minn.), Chloe Levins (Rutland, Vt.) and Hannah Streinz (Hersay, Maine), while the youth men's sprint will feature Paul Thomas Everett (Tacoma, Wash.), Cameron Christiansen (Pequot Lakes, Minn.), Sam Zabell (Truckee, Calif.) and Alexander Kilby (Anchorage, Alaska).
