Ellingson 30th at Youth/Junior Worlds

MINSK-RAUBICHI, Belarus (February 18, 2015) - Siena Ellingson (Minnetonka, Minn.) posted the top finish for Team USA on Wednesday as the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships got underway in Minsk-Raubichi, Belarus.

Ellingson crossed the line in 30th place in the youth women's 10-kilometer individual race, with five penalties and a time of 35:25.6, placing her 5:16 behind the winning effort of Ukraine's Anna Kryvonos who clocked in at 30:09.1 with just one penalty. Second place went to Norway's Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold, 18.8 seconds back with two penalties, while Russia's Elizaveta Kaplina came in third, 28.7 seconds behind Kryvonos, also with two penalties.

Other American finishers in the youth women's 10k individual race were Amanda Kautzer (Plymouth, Minn.) in 54th, Chloe Levins (Rutland, Vt.) in 55th, and Hannah Streinz (Hersey, Maine) in 70th. Full youth women's individual results are available here.

In the youth men's 12.5k individual race, Paul Thomas Everett (Tacoma, Wash.) was the top U.S. finisher in 35th place with five penalties and a time of 39:44.2, putting him 4:39 behind Russia's Kirill Streltsov who claimed the victory with two penalties and a time of 35:04.8. Second place went to Denmark's Anders Emil Schiellerup with clean shooting and just 4.7 seconds behind Streltsov. Russia's Igor Shetko was third, 15.6 seconds back of his winning teammate, with two penalties.

Also representing Team USA in the youth men's 12.k individual race were Cameron Christiansen (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) who tied for 51st, Sam Zabell (Truckee, Calif.) in 70th, and Alexander Kilby (Anchorage, Alaska) who came in 74th. Full youth men's individual results are available here.

Competition continues Thursday with the junior women's 12.5k individual race, followed by the junior men's 15k individual race.
