April is child abuse awareness month, and through its Make the Commitment: Stop Abuse in Sport campaign, the U.S. Olympic Committee is asking you to join Team USA to help prevent child sexual abuse. One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18 - probably by someone they know and trust. For a team of 12 athletes, that’s three girls and two boys who will be affected.

With an estimated 44 million kids under the age of 18 participating in sport, athletic and youth-serving communities have an opportunity to change the odds.

Our Mission
Inspire and empower all Americans to prevent abuse in their communities by raising awareness, driving collaboration and delivering actionable tools.

Here’s the plan

From April 2013 through April 2014, the USOC’s SafeSport program is teaming up experts to deliver free tools and training that will help clubs, coaches and parents make the commitment to prevent abuse. Through free newsletters, campaign resources and training webinars, we’ll provide actionable information on a different topic each month to help us understand, prevent and report abuse. In April 2014, the Make the Commitment campaign will finish up with a SafeSport summit that offers additional training and hands-on workshops.

We all want to make sport safe and fun – so join us during the next 12 months and learn how we can work together to stop sexual abuse.

Make the commitment now.
