The U.S. men’s archery team opened the defense of its 2012 Olympic silver medal by finishing second during Friday morning's qualifying stage at the Sambodromo Archery Range. Brady Ellison, Zach Garrett and Jake Kaminski posted a score of 2,024, 33 points behind South Korea (2,057). The second-place ranking gives the U.S. a bye for the quarterfinal round, set for Saturday (Aug. 6). In individual competition, Ellison's individual score of 690 ranked him second behind the 700 points of South Korea's Woojin Kim. Garrett ranked 15th with 674 points, while Kaminski came in 31st with 660 points.
On the women's side, Mackenzie Brown is the sole U.S. woman competing in Rio. In Friday morning's qualifying stage, Brown finished 19th with a score of 641.
