Hannah Roberts celebrated Thanksgiving by getting engaged and rang in the new year by getting married.
The 19-year-old BMX rider announced her wedding to Kelsey Miller Tuesday on Instagram, just under five weeks after she announced their engagement on Nov. 26.
“2021 is for new beginnings and I’m beyond blessed be beginning a forever with you as my wife,” Roberts wrote. “I love you so much and I’m grateful for the love we are building together.”
Roberts went on to say that she and Miller plan to have a larger ceremony later, post-pandemic, but for now opted for a smaller ceremony, due to, “everything going on and everything coming up.” Just one small thing coming up for Roberts is competing in her sport’s debut at the Olympic Games.
Roberts became the first U.S. rider to qualify in BMX freestyle last February, months before the May cutoff, such was the size of her lead in the USA Cycling rankings. Roberts had been a dominant rider on the BMX freestyle circuit for some time, but turned it up a notch in 2019, winning all three world cup events leading up to her second world championship in November. In the middle of that, she also added a Pan American Games gold medal.
A native of South Bend, Indiana, who grew up in Buchanan, Michigan, Roberts began riding at age 9, following the example of her cousin, pro BMX rider Brett “Mad Dog” Banasiewicz. She entered her first competition in 2012 and won her first world title in 2017.
