One of sports’ biggest power couples is taking things to the next level.

Sue Bird, the four-time Olympic gold medalist basketball star, shared a photo Friday of longtime girlfriend and soccer world player of the year Megan Rapinoe kneeling beside a swimming pool and appearing to slip a ring onto Bird’s finger.

The post came without a caption, but a legion of commenters seemed to take the hint.

“The world needed this!!!!!!!” one person commented.

“So great!!!” shared Olympic basketball gold medalist Kevin Love, echoing the sentiments of many others.

Bird and Rapinoe are two of the most accomplished athletes in their respective sports, and they’re grown their stature in recent years with their willingness to speak out against social injustice and other issues.

Rapinoe, 35, has been a mainstay on the U.S. women’s soccer team for the past decade, in that time helping the USWNT win the 2012 Olympic gold medal and the 2015 and ’19 FIFA Women’s World Cups. A winger known for her creative flair, Rapinoe won both the Golden Ball (best scorer) and Golden Boot (top player) at the 2019 World Cup, and later was named the Best FIFA Women’s Player of 2019.

Bird is similarly accomplished in her own sport, having won her fourth WNBA title earlier this month with the Seattle Storm. A point guard, Bird, who turned 40 this month, has also won four FIBA World Cups as well as two NCAA titles during her time at UConn.

The two superstars met at a press event for the 2016 Olympics and started dating soon after those Rio Games. They announced their relationship in July 2017, which is also when Bird publicly came out as gay. Rapinoe had previously been out.
