Chris Mazdzer Shares How New Athlete Marketing Platform Creates More Opportunities For Athletes To Tell Their Stories

There is a reason the Olympic and Paralympic Games move people from around the world in a way that no other events can. The coming together of the athletes, coupled with a global celebration of sport and culture makes the Games both unique and incredibly powerful. 
 
At the center of that celebration are the athletes. We are models of determination, perseverance, skill, and represent a diversity of race, background, age, geography, education and more. There is no equal to the Olympic and Paralympic Games anywhere in sport. 
 
With the combined forces of great athletes and global interest, we have a platform that fuels remarkable storytelling and, with it, real opportunity for athletes to benefit financially.
 
Today marks an important day in the present and future of Olympic and Paralympic marketing with the introduction of the Athlete Marketing Platform (AMP) by the USOPC. AMP is the result of months of work with the Athletes’ Advisory Council, the National Governing Bodies and experts in the field of individual and group marketing programs. 
 
In a world where sporting success is measured in thousandths of a second on an icy track (like me, in the sport of luge) and where conditions often out of our control can be the difference between gold and silver, AMP is specifically designed to level the playing field when it comes to commercial opportunity.
 
AMP opens up Olympic and Paralympic marketing. It’s voluntary; it works in addition to existing sponsorships, and it gives athletes a much easier pathway to determining what opportunities are out there. It also offers control over the kind of brands athletes want to work with, and how to best manage those relationships. 
 
Corporate sponsors are critical to the health and success of Team USA and, in addition to the broad funding they provide, they employ some of the world's best marketers who help tell the athlete story. As they help introduce us and share our story with the world, they raise the profile of our personal brands, our sports, and the Olympic and Paralympic movements. 
 
AMP is about opening opportunities for athletes to connect with those partners. While at the same time, offering athletes base financial support and help in managing the commercial landscape.
 
As we start this new project through a pilot program, I urge all athletes to explore the program. Also, join the upcoming informational sessions, participate and ask a lot of questions to determine if it’s right for you. 
 
It’s time to match the volume of the athlete's voice with opportunity in front of us. Let’s work together to make the most of it!
