Sarah Hildebrandt competes at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships on Sep. 18, 2019 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

Last week was another big one for Team USA athletes. While many competitions were halted midweek due to the COVID-19 outbreak, U.S. wrestlers continued on to earn 11 Tokyo quota spots at the Pan-American Olympic Qualifier in Ottawa, Ontario, the U.S. women’s soccer team won its third SheBelieves Cup title and much more. There is plenty to get caught up on, so let’s make sure you didn’t miss a beat.

Tokyo Bound

1. Anastasija Zolotic is on her way to Tokyo! The 17-year-old is a rising star in taekwondo, and has secured herself a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team!

2. The Olympic torch relay officially began last week in Olympia, Greece, led by 2016 Olympic shooting gold medalist Anna Korakaki of Greece. The torch will move through Japan culminating with the Opening Ceremony on July 24 in Tokyo.

On Top Of Their Game

3. The U.S. women’s soccer team has done it again! The USWNT won its third SheBelieves Cup with a 3-1 win over Japan last Wednesday.

Quotas On Quotas On Quotas

5. Ildar Hafizov (60 kg.), Alejandro Sancho (67 kg.), Joe Rau (87 kg.) and G’Angelo Hancock (97 kg.) all secured Olympic quota spots for the United States in Greco-Roman wrestling at the Pan-American Olympic Qualifier in Ottawa, Ontario.

6. On the women’s freestyle side, Helen Maroulis (57 kg.), Sarah Hildebrandt (50 kg.), Jacarra Winchester (53 kg.) and Kayla Miracle (62 kg.) all earned quotas spots for Team USA as well.

7. Thomas Gilman (57 kg.), David Taylor (86 kg.) and Nick Gwiazdowski (125 kg.) all reached the men’s freestyle finals and by doing so secured Team USA an Olympic spot for their weight class. The wrestlers who fill those quotas will be named at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling.
