Townley Haas looks on before competing at the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open Championships on Dec. 6, 2019 in Atlanta.

It’ll be a happy holiday season for 2016 Olympic swimming gold medalist Townley Haas as he announced his engagement to girlfriend Megan Meseck on Dec. 13.

Haas posted the happy news to Instagram with the caption: “She said yes!! I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you, I love you so much.”

Haas’ previous post came on Nov. 23, celebrating the couple’s five-year anniversary together. Back then in November 2015, Haas was just beginning what would be a decorated career at the University of Texas. He concluded his freshman season with three gold medals at the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships in March 2016.

Haas qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials for Swimming later that summer, and won the 200-meter freestyle over Ryan Lochte and Conor Dwyer. In Rio, Haas placed fifth in the 200 free and joined Dwyer, Lochte and Michael Phelps for the final of the 4x200-meter freestyle. Swimming the second leg, Haas clocked the fastest split time in the entire field as the U.S. won gold.

After his international breakout, Haas returned to the Longhorns where he won seven more NCAA gold medals, 13 in all, from 2017 to 2019. He won his first world championship medals in Budapest in 2017, bringing home three gold, one silver and one bronze. At the most recent world championships in 2019 in Gwangju, China, Haas was again atop the medal stand in the 4x100 freestyle.
