Weston Mckennie celebrates his goal with teammate Christian Pulisic against Curacao during the first half of the CONCACAF Gold Cup Quarterfinals match at Lincoln Financial Field on June 30, 2019 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
USMNT rising star Weston McKennie is officially on the move to Italy after signing a transfer deal to top Serie A club Juventus on Saturday.
The 22-year-old signed a one-year loan deal, sending him from Schalke to Juventus with a team option to permanently buy at the end of the 2020-21 season.
McKennie, born and raised in Little Elm, Texas, is the first American player to sign with Juventus and joins an impressive group of fellow Americans signed with European clubs, including Christian Pulisic of Chelsea and Gio Reyna of Borussia Dortmund.
He spent three years in Germany as a child before moving back to the United States and playing for the FC Dallas youth side for seven years. McKennie signed with Schalke in 2016 and established himself as a regular starter with the club.
The midfielder scored five goals in 91 appearances in the Bundesliga and has made his mark with the USMNT, tallying six goals and three assists in 19 appearances.
