The Week In Team USA Results: Sept. 17 - Sept. 23

Boxing:
Keyshawn Davis claimed silver in lightweight at the world championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

Figure Skating:
The duo Ashley Cain-Gribble and Timothy Leduc finished first in pairs and duo Madison Chock and Evan Bates finished first in ice dance, and Team USA had an additional 10 top-10 finishes at the international classic in Salt Lake City. 

Judo:
Nefeli Papadakis placed fifth in women’s -78 kg. and L.A. Smith III finished seventh in men’s -100 kg. at the grand prix in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Rhythmic Gymnastics:
Laura Zeng took fifth in ribbon and 10th all-around, and Evita Griskenas finished eighth all-around at the world championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Road Cycling:
Chloe Dygert took first in women's individual time trial, and two Team USA athletes finished top-10 at the world championships in Yorkshire, Great Britain.

Skateboarding:
Nyjah Huston finished first at the street world championships to highlight four top-10 finishes for the U.S. in São Paulo.

Shooting:
Vincent Hancock and Austen Smith took first in men's and women's skeet, respectively, at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Kerrville, Texas.

Surfing:
Lakey Peterson placed first, while Carissa Moore, Caroline Marks and Griffin Colapinto each placed third to highlight 11 top-10 finishes for U.S. athletes at the Freshwater Pro championship tour in Lemoore, California.

Triathlon:
Kevin McDowell finished fourth at the world cup in Weihai, China.  

Weightlifting:
Kate Nye and Mattie Rogers made history by becoming the first U.S. women's weightlifters to go 1-2 at the world championships. Team USA together had 13 top-10 finishes.

Wheelchair Fencing:
Ellen Geddes took ninth in individual epee and 10th in foil at the world championships in Cheongju, South Korea.

Wrestling:
Five Team USA athletes won gold at the world championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

 

Also This Week:

  • The U.S. women’s basketball team beat Paraguay 110-31 in the first game of group play at the AmeriCup in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Group play continues until Sept. 26. 
  • U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team continues round-robin play with a record of 7-1-0 at the world cup in Japan, ending on Sept. 29.
  • Junior cycling athlete Quinn Simmons earned fourth and two junior female athletes had top-10 finishes, Ian Garrison finished second in men U23 and one additional top-10 finish at the road world championships in Yorkshire, Great Britain, which continues until Sept. 29.
