LIMA, Peru – Archer Brady Ellison (Globe, Arizona) was selected as Team USA’s flag bearer for the Closing Ceremony of the Pan American Games Lima 2019, to be held Aug. 11 in Peru, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee announced today. Ellison was chosen to receive the honor by fellow Team USA members via delegation voting.

Making his fourth Pan American Games appearance in Lima, Ellison broke the world record for an individual score in men’s recurve during qualifying rounds. He became only the second man to score over 700 points – and the first since the Rio Olympics – shooting 702 out of 750 on the opening day of archery competition.

“I am so honored, and I think this is awesome,” Ellison said. “I have represented the U.S. for a long time, and this is going to be one of the best parts of my career. I have had an amazing year, and this just topped it off. I feel so blessed.”

The reigning individual world champion, Ellison will have two opportunities to earn medals when archery competition concludes tomorrow with the recurve finals. He will team with Casey Kaufhold in the mixed team gold-medal final and shoot for bronze in the men’s team event. He owns three golds and two silver medals from the Pan American Games.

A three-time Olympian and three-time Olympic medalist, Ellison secured a silver medal with the U.S. men’s team and bronze in individual recurve at the Olympic Games Rio 2016. At the London Games in 2012, he led the U.S. men’s team to silver.

Following 17 days of competition, the Pan American Games Lima 2019 will conclude with the Closing Ceremony on Aug. 11 inside Peru’s National Stadium. The 18th edition of the Pan American Games featured 6,700 athletes from 41 nations participating in 39 sports and 61 disciplines. Twenty-two disciplines were qualifiers for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
