Team USA athletes continued their dominance at the Pan American Games Lima 2019 today with medal celebrations and more on social media. USA Softball took home silver, while Ali Weisz and Mindy Miles won gold and silver, respectively, in the women’s 10m air rifle finals. The gold medal slot for Weisz also secured a quota spot for USA Shooting in the upcoming Olympic Games. 

The 18th Pan Ams continue until Aug. 11, featuring over 600 Team USA athletes, with multiple sports up for qualification opportunities for the upcoming Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Ali Weisz and Mindy Miles Take Home Gold & Silver

USA Shooting’s Weisz and Miles came out to shoot in the 10-meter air rifle finals after moving on from the qualification stage. In the finals, Weisz finished with 249.4 points total to finish in first place, which not only gave Team USA the quota spot but also set a Pan Am Games record. 

Miles followed closely behind at 246.4 to take silver, while notably setting a Pan Am Games qualification round record with a score of 627.4.

On the men’s side, Keith Sanderson finished in fourth and Jackson Leverett in fifth in the men’s rapid fire pistol final.

Softball Leaves Lima with a Silver Medal

The U.S. men’s softball team defeated Mexico in the bronze medal match but then ultimately fell to Argentina, 5-0, in the finals. As a result, the men will be heading home with silver. This is the eighth time that the men's team has won a silver medal at the Pan American Games.

What Else Went On?

2016 Olympian Amy Cozad Magana is not only competing for the USA Diving team during the Pan Am Games, but she is also cheering her Team USA teammates on in her free time. Last night, athletes got together to cheer on the USA Synchro team on its way to bronze.
