COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Standout performances during March earned figure skater Nathan Chen (Salt Lake City, Utah), alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin (Avon, Colorado) and the U.S. Men’s National Rugby Sevens Team Best of March honors for the Team USA Awards presented by Dow, the United States Olympic Committee announced today.

Chen won his second consecutive world title in Saitama, Japan. The three-time U.S. champion notched season’s best scores for his short program, free skate, and overall score, and his 216.02-point free skate set a world record. With the win, Chen became the first American man since Scott Hamilton to win consecutive world titles. He also completed a perfect, undefeated season, winning titles at Skate America, Internationaux de France, the Grand Prix Final, and U.S. Championships.

Shiffrin won three world cup events in March – two slaloms and a giant slalom – at Spindleruv Mlyn, Czech Republic, and Soldeu, Andorra. Her March performances capped a record-setting season in which she won 17 world cup events, bringing her career world cup victory total to 60, at just 24 years old. Shiffrin also claimed four of five season world cup titles in overall, giant slalom, slalom and super-G.

The U.S. Men’s National Rugby Sevens Team won the gold medal at its home stop of the World Rugby Sevens Series in Las Vegas. The result marked the team’s fifth straight podium finish in Seven Series competition and earns Team USA the No. 1 world ranking. The Sevens Series continues through June 2, with the top four finishers in the series automatically qualifying for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

About the Team USA Awards
Each National Governing Body may nominate one female, one male and one team per discipline. An internal nominating committee selects five nominees from both the male and female categories, and three from the team category to advance to the voting round. Votes received from NGB representatives and select members of the media account for 50 percent of the final tally, with the other half determined by online fan voting via TeamUSA.org/Awards.
