U.S. women’s surfer Lakey Peterson, who is ranked second in the World Surf League Championship Tour, takes aim at No. 1 this week in the final days of Roxy Pro France in Landes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. The competition window began on Oct. 3 and runs through Sunday.

Stephanie Gilmore of Australia leads the world rankings.

Peterson has finished no worse than fifth in her last six World Surf League events.

Other U.S. surfers in the competition include Courtney Conlogue and Coco Ho, along with Carissa Moore and Malia Manuel of Hawaii.

Also finishing up this week in France is the men’s World Surf League event, the Quiksilver Pro France. It also began Oct. 3 and runs through Sunday.

Conner Coffin of the U.S., who is No. 14 in the world rankings, edged Yago Dora of Brazil to reach the fourth round.
