Four beach teams from Florida State University are among the 38 teams competing in this week’s Bridgestone USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships in Hermosa Beach, California.

The event is part of the Team USA Summer Champions Series presented by Xfinity. Other events in the Summer Champions Series are the USA Diving Senior National Championships, the USATF Outdoor Championships and the Phillips 66 National Championships in swimming.

The action, which began Thursday, continues through Saturday, when the championship matches in both the women’s and men’s tournaments will be held.

Florida State, Hawaii and Pepperdine are the only schools with teams in both the women’s and men’s tournaments. FSU, the NCAA runner-up, has three teams in the 27-team women’s tournament. Louisiana State has three teams.

Friday’s action in Hermosa Beach includes the men’s semifinals and women’s quarterfinals. The women’s semifinals are Saturday morning, followed by the third-place and championship matches.

Winners of the tournaments lock down spots in the FISU Beach Volleyball World University Championship July 9-13 in Germany.
