The U.S. men’s foil team has had a memorable season.

Two years after winning a bronze medal at the Olympic Games Rio 2016, the team of Alexander Massialas, Gerek Meinhardt, Race Imboden and Miles Chamley-Watson swept all five world cup team competitions in 2018. Friday in Wuxi, China, they’ll go after a world championship at the 2018 Fencing World Championships.

Combined, these four fencers have appeared in nine Olympic Games. Massialas, formerly ranked No. 1 in the world, won two medals in Rio. Massialas, Meinhardt and Imboden have each been ranked first in the world. They entered this week’s team tournament as the top seed.

Mariel Zagunis, a four-time Olympic medalist and 14-time world medalist, leads the U.S. women’s saber team, which is seeded fifth. Others on the team are two-time Olympian Dagmara Wozniak, Eliza Stone and Chloe Fox-Gitomer. Stone won an individual bronze medal, her first world medal, earlier this week

The women’s epee team also won its first medal of any color, a gold, and the women’s foil team won its first gold medal ever.
