Team USA athletes’ successful showings in competitions, celebrations of major life milestones and the excitement from fans across the United States earned a lot of attention on social media this year. In a year with so much to celebrate, here are 13 of the top posts by @TeamUSA in 2018.

While Michael Phelps didn’t compete this year, he was still stealing the show on the web. The potential for a future Phelps in the making and a Where’s Waldo? competition with emojis earned the retired G.O.A.T. a lot of attention…

Simone Biles did things that surprised even herself. Biles set records at the world championships just hours after visiting a hospital with kidney stones.

While we’ve always looked up to Biles, it’s still quite impressive to find out that her fandom transcends species…

A couple new Olympic sports? Well… maybe.

We also learned this year that love can overcome any rivalry. The U.S. women’s ice hockey team celebrated winning gold earlier in 2018 after an intense shootout win over Canada, and in the fall captain Meghan Duggan married Canadian player Gillian Apps. Players from both teams came together to celebrate their union – and Twitter, of course, approved as well…

While there were plenty of successes in 2018, there were also some competitions that didn’t go the way Team USA fans had hoped. Serena Williams helped remind us of an important lesson…
