Team USA athletes’ successful showings in competitions, celebrations of major life milestones and the excitement from fans across the United States earned a lot of attention on social media this year. In a year with so much to celebrate, here are 13 of the top posts by @TeamUSA in 2018.
While Michael Phelps didn’t compete this year, he was still stealing the show on the web. The potential for a future Phelps in the making and a Where’s Waldo? competition with emojis earned the retired G.O.A.T. a lot of attention…
Simone Biles did things that surprised even herself. Biles set records at the world championships just hours after visiting a hospital with kidney stones.
While we’ve always looked up to Biles, it’s still quite impressive to find out that her fandom transcends species…
Last night, she took a trip to the ER because of a kidney stone.

Less than 24 hours later, she leads the all-around standings at #DohaGym2018 with a score of 60.965 and gets a vault named after her.

A couple new Olympic sports? Well… maybe. .@lolojones just made your morning routine an Olympic sport. π pic.twitter.com/wXrRLiVJWK We also learned this year that love can overcome any rivalry. The U.S. women’s ice hockey team celebrated winning gold earlier in 2018 after an intense shootout win over Canada, and in the fall captain Meghan Duggan married Canadian player Gillian Apps. Players from both teams came together to celebrate their union – and Twitter, of course, approved as well…
True love overcomes even the largest of rivalries. πΊπΈπ¨π¦οΈ While there were plenty of successes in 2018, there were also some competitions that didn’t go the way Team USA fans had hoped. Serena Williams helped remind us of an important lesson… A loss doesn't define a legend. #USOpen pic.twitter.com/HcSXdyT1P5 It feels like everyone is a fan of Team USA, which is probably because everyone is, right? From Jimmy Fallon to professional video gamer Ninja, we were impressed with the Red, White and Blue’s reach this year… We see you repping @ussoccer_mnt, @ninja! Hey, @Ninja heard you're a soccer fan. While there was plenty of exciting competition in 2018, we couldn’t help but remember the past and get excited while looking ahead to the future…
Congrats to @mduggan10 on her marriage to Gillian Apps.
