Madelynn Gorman-Shore is coming home with a silver medal after the World Taekwondo Grand Slam in Wuxi, China, on Sunday.
The 19-year-old from Littleton, Colorado, and 2020 Olympic hopeful advanced to the championship match in the women’s +67-kg category where she lost to Great Britain’s Bianca Walkden 2-1. The loss to top-seeded Walkden, who won the Olympic bronze medal in 2016 and is a two-time world champion, was Gorman-Shore’s only loss of the tournament.
Along the way to the final match the No. 6 seed defeated U.S. teammate and Olympian Jackie Galloway in the quarterfinals and then topped Great Britain’s Rebecca McGowan in the semifinals 2-0.
Gorman-Shore was the only medalist for the U.S. at the tournament, where Olympians Paige McPherson and Stephen Lambdin were also competing.
Gorman-Shore competed at the 2017 world championships and made it to the round of 16. She also made it to the round of 16 in September at a Grand Prix event.
