During the week of July 30-Aug. 5, LeBron James announced the opening of his I PROMISE School, where kids will receive free tuition and much more; Beiwen Zhang was among the American contingent competing at the badminton world championships; the MLS hosted its All-Star game featuring many players from the U.S. men's national team; female golfers competed at the Women's British Open, while men played at the World Golf Championships; tennis stars battled at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic; the U.S. women's soccer team won the Tournament of Nations with a 4-1 victory over Brazil; the U.S. women's softball team began its dominant streak at the WBSC Women's Softball World Championship in Japan; the U.S. took home 15 medals at the Para-cycling Road World Championships in Italy; the Vans Park Series and US Open of Surfing took place in Huntington Beach, California; Jeffrey Gluckstein won the first U.S. men's trampoline world cup medal in nine years and USA Cycling's elite track nationals began in California.
