
The 2005 women’s all-around gymnastics world champion, Chellsie Memmel gave birth to her second child on Sunday.
Memmel, 29, made the announcement on Instagram, saying, “Welcome to the world and our family.” The caption accompanied a photo of daughter Audrielle Ruth Maier, weighing in at six pounds, 12 ounces and measuring 19 ¼ inches.
This is the second child for Memmel and husband Kory Maier. They welcomed son Dashel Dean Maier on Feb. 5, 2015.
Memmel became the third American woman to win the world all-around title in 2005 and was also the 2003 world champion on the uneven bars. Competing at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, she won team silver in Beijing along with Shawn Johnson, Nastia Liukin, Samantha Peszek, Alicia Sacramone and Bridget Sloan. It was announced after the Games that she had competed in the team final on the uneven bars on a broken ankle suffered in training in Beijing.
Memmel’s seven world championship and Olympic medals tie her with Johnson as Team USA’s seventh-most decorated female gymnast. She retired from gymnastics in 2012.
