When you have greatness in your genes it’s almost inevitable that you will be pretty incredible yourself, right? So it should come as no surprise that U.S. Olympians have some pretty talented kids. In honor of Absolutely Incredible Kid Day on March 16, we check out eight Team USA athletes and their mini-mes, who could very likely be Olympians themselves one day.
1. Jordan Burroughs and his future gymnast, Beacon
The gold medalist wrestler shows off Beacon’s moves while playing at a local My Gym. Thanks to his son’s tumbling abilities, he said the “Father and Son Circus” is “taking reservations to perform at a party near you.”
2. Dana Vollmer and her future trampolinist, Arien
The three-time Olympic swimmer and seven-time medalist got her son, Arien, a trampoline for Christmas, and maybe a little too much sugar, she said. At least the swimmer, who is expecting her second child this summer, said all that jumping had him “burning some serious calories.”
3. Michael Phelps and his future golfer, Boomer
Now that the most decorated Olympian of all time has retired from swimming, he is looking for a buddy to hit the links with. His son Boomer and him make a great team as they putt as a twosome at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
4. Chaunte Lowe and her future long jumper, M.J.
The four-time Olympic high jumper and mom of three thinks that her “2yr old can beat your 2ry old” when it comes to going the distance in the sand. “Ya’ll he’s ready,” she said about M.J. “Who wants some!?!”
5. Kerri Walsh Jennings and her future gymnast, Sundance
The four-time Olympic beach volleyball medalist’s 6-year-old son clearly has the makings of an Olympic gymnast. In fact, Sundance is already requesting video of himself to review his form. If he does make it to the Games one day, expect to see this footage on NBC.
6. David Boudia and his future diver, Dakoda
Not long after the four-time Olympic medalist diver returned home from Rio, his daughter Dakoda was following in his footsteps and learning a dive of her own, albeit onto a bed. Gotta start somewhere, right?
7. Tony Azevedo and his future alpine skier, Cruz
It wasn’t surprising that when one of the best American water polo players took his family skiing, it was his son who showed up the instructor. On a trip to Mammoth Mountain, California, the 2008 silver medalist’s son, Cruz — who is just shy of 4 years old — practically passes the teacher while taking a ski lesson.
8. Matt Kuchar and his future golfers, Cameron and Carson
Just days before Matt Kuchar earned a historic bronze medal in Rio – in golf’s return to the Games after a 112-year absence – his sons Cameron and Carson were showing why they’re well on their way to earning medals of their own, competing at the junior skills competition Drive, Putt & Chip.
