What are Team USA athletes — Olympians, Paralympians and hopefuls — up to when they're not competing? They're training. They're practicing. They're traveling to competitions and meets and games and tournaments. They're relaxing. They're getting engaged and married and having children. They're taking hard-earned vacations. Or retiring. Or coping with the raw emotions that come from losing and winning. And they're sharing. Through the reach of social media, we're able to follow along on their often extraordinary journeys. We'll catch you up each week on what's "Red, White & Trending."
Dancing Machines
This had to be a pretty good week for "Dancing with the Stars" pro Sasha Farber. Farber’s partner for next season? None other than Simone Biles, yet another in a distinguished line of Team USA gymnasts competing for the mirror ball trophy — including Rio teammate and Season 23 champion Laurie Hernandez.
Hernandez also passed along a little something to her teammate and friend …
Also in this next season’s cast will be two-time Olympic medalist figure skater Nancy Kerrigan.

Speaking Of Hernandez …
Prior to surprising the new DWTS cast, Hernandez was coming off a weekend she capped off watching the Great American Race with her brother.

Running. Late.
Now underway, the #SheBelievesCup gave the U.S. Women’s National Team a return to the sporting spotlight, opening with a 1-0 win over Germany. In the run-up to the tournament opener, it also gave teenager Mallory Pugh and Lindsey Horan a chance to run. Because they may or may not have been late to practice.
Spotted at training: @MalPugh & @Lindseyhoran11 sprinting through the field because they were late.

Horan maintained their innocence.

Two-time Olympic swimming medalist Cody Miller, a few days before Indy’s Arena Pro Swim Series event, already had the Oscars on his mind.

Miller also had the gumption to post his Oscars pics (16 of 24, he later pointed out).

Back On Track
Olympic bronze medalist short track speedskater Aly Dudek is back. Her training is fully underway after some time away from competition, and she still, quite clearly, knows her way around the track.
You know who else is back? Olympic diving champion Laura Wilkinson, who won gold in 2000 and whose news of the announcement was accompanied by an inspiring video.
Sneak Peek
It appears the mountains of PyeongChang have the initial approval of Olympic alpine skiing legend Lindsey Vonn.

Kids, Don’t Try This At Home
Two-time Olympic gymnast Jonathan Horton has a hobby. And perhaps you have already been made aware of it. Horton has appeared on "American Ninja Warrior," making a bit of history in the process when he became the shortest man to scale the Warped Wall. Unfortunately, training as a ninja has its disadvantages.
Signs Of Progress
Paralympic swimming star Becca Meyers has a hobby, too. Though far less dangerous than Horton’s, it is by no means easy.

Let It Slide
Among the great gifts of following Team USA athletes through social media is the occasionally reflective look back and taking stock of an event, season or even a career. Pair it with a pretty epic competition slo-mo and, in the case of three-time luge Olympian, bronze medalist and 2018 hopeful Erin Hamlin, you really have something special.
Fat Tuesday Floating
You know what’s hard to miss? A couple guys standing 6-foot-11 on a Mardi Gras float. That’s where we found the towering duo of New Orleans Pelicans and Olympic hoopsters Anthony Davis, a London Olympian, and, after a trade to the Big Easy prior to the NBA’s trade deadline, Rio Olympian DeMarcus Cousins.

Davis, who was drafted in 2012 by New Orleans, had a bit more time to prepare for the holiday.

Ain’t No Party Like A Rio Party
Paralympic snowboarding bronze medalist Amy Purdy will see your Mardi Gras and raise you a Carnival in Rio de Janeiro …
Nothing like getting up and sambaing your way into a stadium packed with 85,000 people.
And if you’re going to Rio, and you have this shot, you really should take it and post it …
Generation Next
Once the youngest player on the U.S. Men’s Soccer Team that finished fourth in Sydney, Landon Donovan, then 18, wearing the No. 13 and sporting blonde hair, is now 34 and the father of one. Well, make that …

Welcome To The Family
Olympic champion pole vaulter Jenn Suhr and her husband have added a new member of the family, too …

Wedding Bells
Without Olympic teammate Marti Malloy encouraging her, there’s a chance judo star Kayla Harrison doesn’t back up her London gold medal with another gold in Rio. You see, Harrison toyed with retirement after the 2012 Games, but Malloy wasn’t having it. Today, the pair remain BFFs, and it was Harrison who passed along these beautiful sentiments on the occasion of Malloy’s wedding day …
For a look at the happy couple:

Between The Trees
Two-time Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Shaun White may be in Vail, Colorado, this week for the U.S. Open, but it’s awfully fun to see what he can do in the powder between the trees.
