The top-ranked men’s beach volleyball team of Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena added another gold medal to their 2017 collection with a win over Brazilians Andre Stein and Evandro Oliveira at the Swatch FIVB World Tour Finals in Hamburg, Germany.
They began the day by beating Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak of Poland in the semifinals, 2-0 (21-19, 21-15). They then dispatched the Brazilian team, 2-0 (21-15, 21-13), to give them their third gold medal on the world tour this summer, in addition to a bronze. For the victory, Dalhausser and Lucena also claimed a $100,000 winner’s prize.

The Brazilians were the No. 2-ranked team. This was the third meeting this season between the two sides, both in the semifinals, with the U.S. winning in Switzerland and Brazil winning in the U.S.
Dalhausser and Lucena won the silver medal in 2015, the inaugural year of the World Tour Finals. They’re ranked No. 1 in the FIVB World Rankings and were the top seed at the finals, and have now won eight international gold medals among 16 podium finishes.
The other U.S. teams competing in the tournament — Casey Patterson and Theo Brunner, Brooke Sweat and Summer Ross and April Ross and Lauren Fendrick — all tied for ninth after being eliminated in the round of 12 on Friday.
