What are Team USA athletes — Olympians, Paralympians and hopefuls — up to when they're not competing? They're training. They're practicing. They're traveling to competitions and meets and games and tournaments. They're relaxing. They're getting engaged and married and having children. They're taking hard-earned vacations. Or retiring. Or coping with the raw emotions that come from losing and winning. And they're sharing. Through the reach of social media, we're able to follow along on their often extraordinary journeys. We'll catch you up each week on what's "Red, White & Trending."
Sun-Daze, Fun Day
For a few hours this past week, much of country stood still — with wonder, with curiosity, with glasses, welding masks and homemade viewing boxes made out of cereal boxes — to watch an eclipse that gave many of us a show we won’t soon forget. Team USA was on it, too, caught up in the event and ready to share their perspective. Even the less-prepared seemed to enjoy sharing their takes on an event that captured millions of imaginations. Of course, there were some who clearly prepped, too. Scroll to the bottom of this section to have a look at an unofficial “best in show” collection of two from Olympic alpine skier Laurenne Ross, who set up shop, armed with time-lapse and a nice lens, in the path of totality at Camp Sherman in Oregon.
That solar eclipse was awesome!!! Jk I'm in Central Europe #missedit

Living Large At The LLWS
Mo'ne Davis, who in 2014 took the Little League World Series by storm with an effort that landed her on the cover of Sports Illustrated, doesn’t often travel to Williamsport these days, but, when she does, she reps Team USA.

Congratulations are in order for the USA Gymnastics 2017 Hall of Fame class: the Final Five, coaches Miles Avery and Mihai Brestyan, Sean Townsend, Gabby Douglas, Shawn Johnson East and Chellsie Memmel, a few of whom shared priceless pics among family and friends …

Absentee Vote
Johnson East, of course, has long been a Hall of Famer in the eyes of husband Andrew East, but, unfortunately, he wasn’t able to make the festivities, so he sent along one touching tribute and something a little lighter …
The pair has since reunited …

Closing Time Again
With the passing of Aug. 21, so, too, does the anniversary of the close of the Rio Games. Which also gave Team USA one last chance to look back at a special anniversary.

Moving On Up
Shalane Flanagan had already experienced standing on an Olympic podium when she earned a bronze medal in the 10,000-meter at the Beijing Games, but a ruling led to an upgrade to silver, which arrived with little fanfare this past week to her how in Oregon. Flanagan, who declined a more formal ceremony, made the most of receiving the new hardware. As did pal Emily Infeld.

Cold Front
The closer we come to watching summer’s last few rays shine down, the closer we are to turning our attention to fall and even more reminders that the 2018 PeyongChang Games aren’t all that far away. For Team USA’s skiers, winter has already arrived in the form of their very own snow farm in New Zealand and in Chile.

Cup-Clincher
Team USA, which needed an historic comeback at the previous edition of the Solheim Cup to win, held its penultimate day lead in 2017 and retained the cup in convincing fashion. In the case of Rio Olympian Lexi Thompson, the win meant posting one of the more compelling notes of gratitude to her coach
Curling Days Before Curling Night
This is what the Road to PyeongChang looks like in August 2017. For curling hopefuls, it’s a stop at Baxter Arena in Omaha for Curling Night in America. Trials loom in November. But first, a few visits and a media event …
