
Five For Friday: Beach Volleyball
Erika Reineke, a replacement athlete for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team, and Haddon Hughes and James Liebl are among the athletes leading the U.S. in the Laser Radial World Championships in Medemblik, Netherlands.
The competition goes through Saturday.
Reineke, who won a silver medal in Denmark in the test event for the 2018 world championships, was in 37th place after Wednesday’s competition to lead the U.S. team. Hughes, who was recently named to the U.S. Sailing National Team, was in 51st place among 100 women. Liebl led the U.S. men in 40th place, and Julian Soto was 43rd.
Other U.S. sailors in the men’s competition are Conrad Vandlik and Gage Wilson.
Joining Reineke and Hughes in the women’s competition are Sophia Reineke, Erika’s younger sister; Hanne Weaver, the 2017 U.S. singlehanded women’s champion; and Lindsey Baab, Isabella Bertold and Christina Sakellaris.
