Wrestler Helen Maroulis went to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as the "selfish athlete," concentrating only on wrestling, training and rest, and returned home as an Olympic gold medalist. Her new hardware has led to a litany of opportunity: nonstop media engagements, meeting with the Baltimore Ravens, eating crabs with baseball legend Cal Ripken, Jr., and more charitable events than she could possibly commit to.
In the midst of her post-Olympic whirlwind, Maroulis has learned that she needs to pick and choose her priorities carefully. Spending time with family is at the top of her list, as are opportunities that fit her values and the platform she hopes to stand for. A skilled competitor on the mat, Maroulis is coming into her own off of it as well.
